Mar/Apr 2006 - Major changes to Airport Roads

Major changes are currently underway to the roads serving the Domestic Terminal at Brisbane Airport.

Changes began on February 1, with public vehicular access no longer available on the existing terminal road.

Visitors dropping off or picking up passengers now have access to a new designated set down and pick up area of the domestic terminal.

Once completed by Easter 2006, the Domestic Terminal road improvement project will deliver one centralised taxi rank on the terminal road, which will only be shared with scheduled buses, eliminating previous delays experienced at Brisbane Airport from taxis having to join public roads.

Spokesperson for BAC, Mr Jim Carden said, “Upon completion of this upgrade, the new road design will greatly improve access for taxis, buses and pedestrians at the Domestic Terminal.  All traffic flow through the terminal will be improved.”

“The safety of Airport visitors is always BAC’s number one priority, signs will be in place to advise motorists of the changes to set down facilities and road conditions,” said Mr Carden.

With over 12 million travellers using the Domestic Terminal each year, excluding other visitors such as meeters and greeters, airport and airline carrier staff, ground transport operators and employees working at all the Airport’s retail outlets, the road system has reached capacity during peak periods.  That is why BAC is delivering this $4.5 million Domestic Terminal Road Improvement project.

The Domestic Terminal road improvements mark the start of BAC’s $1.5 billion roll-out of vital airport infrastructure over the next seven years involving further upgrades to the Brisbane Airport road network, Domestic and International Terminal upgrades and a New Parallel Runway.
