Leo Hegerty & Frank Intelisano receive Industry Acievement Awards
At the recent Taxi Council State Conference, Leo Hegerty and Frank Intelisano both received Taxi Industry Achievement Awards. Both Leo and Frank have had a long association with the industry and are worthy recipients of this award.
Leo Hegerty started in the Taxi Industry in 1982 as a taxi driver. Two years later he bought his first Taxi Service Licence and became an Owner/Driver with Ascot Taxis. Leo was on the Board of Q-Cabs (formerly Ascot Taxis) when the company merged with Black & White Cabs in 1994.
Until he retired in June 2008, Leo was a member of the Board of Black & White Cabs serving as Chairman for over 10 years.
Leo served on Taxi Council from 1992 until 2004, was a Board member for three years and Chairman of the Metropolitan Committee for seven years.
Among Leo's proudest achievements with Taxi Council of Queensland include being instrumental in the formation of the Metropolitan Taxi Council, and his involvement in setting up the first Dawn Express program which went on to become the very successful NightLink product.
Leo also had a major involvement in successfully negotiating the first agreement with Brisbane Airport Corporation, that resulted in a spirit of cooperation and understanding with BAC for an improvement in facilities for all Brisbane cabbies.
Well done Leo and Congratulations.
Frank Intelisano would be one of Queensland's most well known taxi industry characters, not only within the industry but outside as well. His taxi industry career began in 1967 when he met Harry Atkins from Black & White Cabs who helped Frank obtain his first taxi licence. Frank's work ethic saw him working up to 20 hour days, and it wasn't long before he was able to purchase a second licence.
In the early 1970's Frank became a Director of Black & White Cabs and served on the Taxi Council of Queensland Executive. He quickly developed political connections within the Queensland Liberal Party, knowing that this would be advantageous to the taxi industry.
Frank also understood that working with Queensland Transport was important to our industry and developed enduring business relationships with many QT staffers at the time. It is a testament to Frank's ability to develop such relationships, that many of them continue today - a remarkable achievement over such a time frame.
During the turbulent days of Black & White Cabs in the early 90's (before the days of Greg Webb) Frank became involved with the establishment of Brisbane Cabs. Frank was a Taxi Council delegate and Board Member representing Brisbane Cabs.
Frank extended his taxi empire by purchasing licences on the Gold Coast. He also served as a Board member and Vice Chairman of Regent Taxis during the 1990's.
Frank has had a magnificent Queensland Taxi Industry career and we congratulate him.
