Requirements for taxi driving

Black & White Cabs

To drive a Black & White Cab, the following requirements must be met:-

  • 21 years of age or older
  • 21 - 30 years require a driving certificate by an approved driving school

Queensland Transport

To drive a taxi you need to obtain Driver Authorisation from Queensland Transport. To apply, you will need:

  • to have held an Australian drivers licence continuously for at least 12 months
  • to have an acceptable driving and criminal history
  • a current Commercial Vehicle Driver's Health Assessment. This can be obtained through your local GP
  • an English Assessment Certificate. (issued at the successful completion of our course)
  • a certificate showing your successful completion of our Taxi Driver Training Course (issued at the successful completion of our course)

You will need to lodge your application with Queensland Transport before you attend our course, but you will need to supply the English Assessment Certificate, the Taxi Driving Training Certificate and the Commercial Vehicle Driver's Health Assessment before the application will be approved.
